Asafa Powell, the 31 year-old Jamaican sprinter allegedly took Oxilofrine last year at the National Championships which is counted in the list of banned stimulants. For the same, the 100 metres record holder received an 18 months ban. On failing the drug test, the athlete was banned which he thinks is ‘unjust’ and ‘unfair’. The suspension will end on December 20 this year. Powell claims that the drug he took was a legal supplement known as Epiphany D1, but turned out to be contaminated.
Before Usain Bolt gained popularity with his record breaking run at the Olympics, Powell was the biggest name in Jamaican sprinting. However, he had to miss last year’s World Championships due to the failed drug test and will also not be able to play at the Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow this July.
