Cancer Care From IBM’s Watson Supercomputer

IBM’s Watson supercomputer will be used to make cancer care decisions in 14 hospitals in US and Canada. Using computers for trawling the amount of medical data will undoubtedly speed up the diagnosis process.

The system will asses individual tumours and suggest drug to target them. Earlier, a sole process of translating cancer-sequencing results into potential treatment options often takes weeks for just one patient’s tumour but with this computer it has dramatically reduced to just few minutes. After that the patients who are diagnosed can easily be treated with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

In the coming future it is expected that every decision mankind makes is going to be informed by a cognitive system like Watson and as a result our lives in the world are going to be better with it.
